A farewell to Nanashi Mumei

3–5 minutes

Nanashi Mumei will graduate from Hololive on April 28th, 2025.
She originally debuted in August 2021 as part of Hololive Council, alongside Tsukumo Sana, Ceres Fauna, Ouro Kronii, and Hakos Baelz—with Sana and now Mumei being the first two members of Council to graduate.

On March 27th, 2025, Mumei announced her upcoming graduation, citing internal misalignments and chronic health issues as the reasons for her departure. Mumei has long battled a chronic cough, which unfortunately has limited her ability to work and stream as much as she may have wished during her time with Hololive.

As she prepares to say farewell, let’s take a moment to look back on Mumei’s time in Hololive and celebrate everything she accomplished.

Mumei’s Journey

Mumei debuted alongside the rest of Hololive Council in August 2021.
She swiftly gained momentum, hitting 100,000 subscribers during her debut stream, then 200,000 in the following days, and 300,000 a month later. By January 1st, 2022, she had already crossed the 500,000-subscriber milestone.
Mumei’s popularity was fueled by her unique combination of humorous, deadpan delivery and an irresistibly cute personality. One of her signature moments became her simple, iconic “oh hi” greeting at the start of streams, a line that fans quickly embraced.

Interestingly, Mumei’s voice was often compared to Gawr Gura’s, leading to frequent confusion between the two. This even inspired a fan-made game on Itch.io by planetdropper, where players had to guess whether certain voice lines were spoken by Gura or Mumei—a testament to how iconic both of their voices had become in the community.

On July 20th, 2022, Council (along with IRyS) debuted their “beeg smol” 3D models, designed by Sana. These were the Council equivalent of HoloMyth’s popular “smol” models. Mumei, always ready to play into her chaotic side, even created an alternative scary face for her model, which she used to prank other members during streams.
Finally, on January 26th, 2023, Mumei reached another major milestone—1 million subscribers—becoming the 39th Hololive member and the first member of Hololive Council to reach the coveted 1 million mark.

Achievements

Mumei achieved a great deal during her time in Hololive.
She released two singles, “A New Start” and “mumei,” with the music video for “mumei” becoming her most-watched video, pulling in over 5 million views—just edging out “Dan Dan Don Don” and “A New Start,” which both also surpassed the 5 million view mark.
Her debut stream remains her most viewed live stream, sitting at an impressive 1.3 million views.

Mumei was also well known for her regular Overwatch streams, often playing alongside other Hololive members. In a recent chat with Takanashi Kiara, she joked that she would be taking a long break from Overwatch once she graduates—an endearing nod to how closely the game had been tied to her streaming identity.

In that same conversation, Mumei reflected on how proud she was to have had the chance to perform and sing live in front of thousands. She shared that participating in Hololive Fes was her favourite project during her time with Hololive, a sentiment that highlights just how much she valued connecting with fans on stage.

Mumei was also a beloved member of the subgroup Holotori, alongside Kiara, Reine, Subaru, and Lui. Together, they released “Holotori Dance!,” an energetic and charming song that has amassed over 9 million views on YouTube—a testament to both their chemistry and the affection fans have for them.

Closing thoughts

Saying goodbye to Mumei will not be easy, but it’s important to wave her onward to the next chapter of her life.
Content creation is an incredibly demanding line of work, and sometimes our health has other plans for us. It’s truly tragic to see Mumei battling chronic health issues, but we should also reflect on the joy, warmth, and laughter she has brought to Hololive and its community over the past three and a half years.

Mumei’s spirit, creativity, and kindness have left a lasting mark on Hololive and on the fans who followed her journey. As she steps away, we can only hope her future brings her renewed strength, happiness, and above all, good health.

Thank you for everything, Mumei. We’ll always be cheering for you.
