Introduction

May marked a bit of a quiet period for Hololive, with a noticeable drop in both viewership and Super Chat revenue across the board. While the numbers dipped slightly, there were still some noteworthy moments, including Houshou Marine reaching 4 million YouTube subscribers, and the second chapter of Enigmatic Recollection continuing to build interest.

Despite the slower month, the FlowGlow generation remains a standout, delivering consistent performances and maintaining strong momentum across both streams and community engagement.

Looking at this month’s data, Houshou Marine dominated on both fronts — pulling in the highest number of views and Super Chat revenue by a wide margin. Following behind in Super Chat earnings were Okayu, Aki Rosenthal, Gawr Gura, and Koyori, all of whom saw strong fan engagement throughout the month.

In terms of viewership, Suisei, Miko, and Koyori stood out alongside Marine, continuing their consistent performance with impressive numbers.

This month’s average total views per talent was approximately 7.5 million, while the average Super Chat revenue came in at ¥1,232,435 (~$8,800 USD). While overall numbers were slightly down, individual standout performances helped keep the month from feeling entirely flat.

Gawr Gura – A Final Word

Gawr Gura graduated on the 1st of May, meaning her final day contributes to this month’s statistics — earning ¥3,800,000 (~$27,000 USD) in Super Chats. Her graduation stream was short but memorable, closing with a phenomenal performance of “Ash Again”, a track that now serves as a fitting final chapter to her legacy.

Gura has long stood as the face of Hololive on the international stage, especially in English-speaking markets. Her departure leaves a noticeable void in Hololive’s global identity. While talents like Marine and Suisei are undeniably iconic both in Japan and abroad, having an English-speaking talent at the forefront has been crucial in reaching mainstream Western audiences.

Mori Calliope has broken into wider music markets and gained strong recognition through her music career, but when it comes to general visibility and community engagement, the search continues for the next iconic face of HoloEN. Koseki Bijou has been the most consistent HoloEN performer recently, earning praise for her dedication, variety content, and audience rapport.

That said, Hololive English still has a deep and diverse talent pool, and while no one may replace Gura directly, there’s no shortage of potential for someone to rise to the top.

The New Face of Hololive

Houshou Marine reached the 4 million subscriber milestone this month during a karaoke livestream that also pulled in over ¥5,000,000 (~$35,000 USD) in Super Chats.

If you’ve been following past editions of Holo Stats, you’ll know Marine consistently ranks near the top in both viewership and Super Chat revenue , and this month is no different. A key factor in her continued success is her music output, not just in terms of vocal performance but also in the exceptional production quality of her music videos. Many of her videos rival the standard of anime industry productions, with high-end visuals, polished animation, and distinct artistic direction.

This, combined with Marine’s instantly recognisable character design and expressive personality, has helped her become one of the most globally recognised talents in Hololive’s entire roster.

Flow Glow

It’s now been seven months since FlowGlow debuted, marking one of Cover’s most ambitious steps in expanding the Hololive brand , this time with a Hip-Hop-themed generation. While the previous DEV_IS group, ReGloss, leaned heavily into idol culture and J-pop, FlowGlow represents a deliberate move into new musical and cultural territory, aiming to engage audiences who might not have previously been interested in Hololive’s traditional offerings.

That said, FlowGlow haven’t just reached new fans — they’ve also been warmly embraced by the existing Hololive community, with each member quickly forming bonds and producing exciting collaborations with their senpai.

From a performance standpoint, FlowGlow have been consistently strong. Since debut, each member has averaged around 3 million views and ¥1,500,000 (~$10,500 USD) in Super Chats per month, putting them comfortably in the top 50% of Hololive talents month after month.

Their success shows that Cover’s experiment in genre expansion has not only broadened Hololive’s reach but also enriched the ecosystem with fresh energy and musical diversity.

Enigmatic Recollection

Enigmatic Recollection (EnReco) Chapter 2 marked the highly anticipated sequel to Hololive’s Minecraft-based roleplay event first launched in September of last year. The EnReco project is a unique step for Hololive , a structured, narrative-driven collaboration complete with original assets, dedicated lore, and its own line of exclusive merchandise. While Cover hasn’t publicly shared the exact metrics, they use to gauge success for projects like these, the commissioning of both Chapter 2 and a confirmed Chapter 3 suggests a continued investment and belief in its potential.

Unfortunately for EnReco, Chapter 1’s release was overshadowed by the runaway success of Holo GTA, which took place just a few weeks later. Holo GTA became one of the most beloved Hololive collaborations ever, involving talents from every branch and sparking a flood of UGC content across the internet. It was a viral sensation, widely clipped, endlessly shared, and a major global talking point.

While EnReco didn’t generate the same viral momentum, it still attracted solid engagement and carved out its own place in the Hololive ecosystem. More importantly, EnReco’s strength lies in being an original IP, which gives Cover far more creative and commercial control. Unlike GTA , a third-party property, EnReco allows for the creation of original merchandise, animated trailers, and professional music videos, all of which can deepen the brand and support long-term monetisation.

Chapter 2 of Enigmatic Recollection released without direct competition this time, unlike Chapter 1, which overlapped with the viral success of Holo GTA. However, it came just a few months after the launch of Hololive’s new Minecraft server, raising the possibility of Minecraft burnout among both talents and viewers. While EnReco’s narrative and roleplay focus makes it quite different from traditional Minecraft streams — drawing comparisons to popular SMPs or even classic series like The Yogscast’s Shadow of Israphel — the timing still may have dulled enthusiasm.

Chapter 2 also struggled to generate the same level of hype and momentum as Chapter 1. This may be due not just to timing, but to a general dip in community morale following the graduations of Nanashi Mumei and Gawr Gura, two of Hololive’s most beloved talents.

Personally, I found it difficult to engage with EnReco Chapter 2 because most of the streams aired very late at night for EU fans, limiting live participation. For many of us, VODs and clips were the only way to keep up, and that can really hinder the feeling of being part of a live event.

There also doesn’t appear to be a strong reason why EnReco must be compressed into a single week, rather than being spread out across a month. This tight schedule creates a fear of missing out, especially for global audiences, and likely places significant pressure on the talents involved.

That said, the framework behind EnReco is promising. It offers a new form of content engagement and blends storytelling, collaboration, and in-universe merchandising in a way that most VTuber agencies haven’t attempted. The model clearly has potential, it just needs some refinement in structure, timing, and accessibility.
